Senior Counselor

Kate holds a BA in English from Harvard, where she earned her year’s top GPA among English majors. She also holds an MFA from UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television (TFT).
She is a New Yorker cartoonist, a songwriter, and an animator whose films have screened internationally. In addition, she has 20+ years’ experience as an editor for magazines, startups, and Fortune 500 companies. Her drawings have appeared in The New Yorker, Alta Journal, and other national magazines. She has released two albums of original music and three short films, two of which received grants from Simpsons creator Matt Groening and screened internationally.

Kate has taught at UCLA TFT and California College of the Arts. Since 2016, she has advised students on application essays that secured admission to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Columbia (both college and business school), Penn, Brown, Northwestern, UC Berkeley (both college and graduate programs), UCLA, and many others. She relishes helping emerging writers and artists use storytelling not only to reach their education and professional goals but also to clarify their sense of self.
